Report from our last trip, with a group of birdwatchers the rout of Lima-Cusco-Manu rout – Puerto Maldonado - Abra Málaga - Machupicchu – Lima.

We saw almost 400 birds species in just 11 days of traveling starting on the Coast, Highland, And Amazon low land area in Peru, the guides of this group were Walter Mancilla, Alex Durant and Tomoko Suzuki and for the Coast area the Biology Mr. Alejandro Tello.

Day 1 / 12 Sept. Lima to Cusco.- By Plane Arriving late at night the day before and early in the morning head to the airport to take the flight to Cusco, arriving Cusco and stay at Andes de America Hotel very close to plaza de Armas, main plaza of Cusco city, rest for the next day for the Manu Rout trip. Short stay in Lima and the birds we sow with Amazilia hummingbird, Vermilion Flycatcher, House Sparrow, West Peruvian Dove. Arriving Cusco, we sow Cinereous Cone bill, Rock Pigeon, Rufous Collared Sparrow.

Day 2 / 13 Sept. Cusco to Paradise Lodge. (3,400- 4,000-1,600 meters elevation).- By Bus Starting our trip by bus at 6am.- Huacarpay lake-dry forest next to Paucartambo village-cloud forest. Birds: Bearded Mountaineer, Giant hummingbird, White tufted Grebe, yellow-billet pintail, Puna Teal, Speckled teal, Cinnamon Teal, Andean Guan, Cattle Egret, Black Crown Night Heron, Puna Ibis, Variable Hawk, Cinereous Harrier, American Kestrel, Plumbeous rail, Common Moorhen, Andean Coot, Tawny throated Dotterel (15 individuals), Andean Lapwing, Andean Gull, Bare faced Ground Dove, Eared Dove, Spot winged Pigeon, Rock Pigeon, Scale Naped Parrot, Lyre Tailed Nightjar(Male flying and female nesting next to the bridge of Union), Giant Hummingbird, Shining Sunbeam, Violet Throated Starfrontlet, Long Tailed Sylph, Black Tailed Trainbearer, Bearded Mountaineer, White bellied Woodstar, Masked Trogon, Slender billed Miner, Wren like Rushbird, cream crested Spinetail, Dot backed Antbird, White Banded Tyrannulet, Many colored Rush tyrant, Tufted Tit tyrant, Rufous naped Ground Tyrant, Streaked throated Bush Tyrant, White Broweb Chat tyrant, Barred Becard, White collared Jay, Green Jay, Andean Solitaire, Chihuanco Thrush, Great Thrush, Rust and Yellow Tanager, Blue and Yellow Tanager, Blue capped Tanager, Yellow throated Bush Tanager, Chesnut bellied Mountain Tanager, Hooded Mountain Tanager, Masked Flowerpiercer, Black Throated Flowerpiercer, Mourning Sierra Finch, Band Tailed Sierra Finch, Band tailed Seedeater, Rufuos Naped Brush Finch, Yellow Winged Black Bird, Hooded siskin. Arriving the Lodge at 7 pm. Before arrive the Lodge we stop at union area to see a Lyre Tailed Nightjar, we sow flying the male, was fantastic.

Day 3 / 14 Sept. Paradise Lodge to Amazonia Lodge.- By Bus Early start to see the Cock of the Rock Leck dancing with a cap of coffee we start our day, we went for 20 minutes car driving next to Union area, this place has less people visiting this leg and it was very nice with many Birds, males and females dancing next to the platform, they were like 15 males and 2 females. After this activity finish we visited the nest next to the rout at the Manu Cloud Forest Lodge, where a nice female Lyre Tailed Nightjar was nesting with two chicks. Back to the Lodge breakfast and continue our trip to Amazonia Lodge. Birds: Black and White Hawk Eagle, Roadside Hawk, Orange Breasted Falcon(next to the bridge in Pilcopata), White collared Swith, Sparkling Violetear, Wire crested Thorntail, green fronted lancebill, Many spotted Hummingbird, Violet fronted Brilliant, Fawn breasted Brilliant, Boated Racked Tail, Highland Motmot, Gilded Barbet, White Crested Elaenia, Ornate flycatcher, Cinnamon Flycatcher, Black backed Tody Flycatcher, Yellow Breasted Flycatcher, Black Phoebe, Golden crowned Flycatcher, Lemon Browed Flycatcher, Long Tailed Tyrant, Tropical Kimbird, Masked Tityra, Andean Cock of the Rock, Violceous Jay, Purplish Jay, white banded Swallow, Southern Rough winged Swallow, White winged Swallow, Beryl spangled Tanager, Masked Tanager, Bay headed Tanager, Blue Necked Tanager, Black faced Dacnis, Yellow Browed Sparrow, Red capped Cardinal, Grayish Saltator, Three banded Warbler, Dusky green Oropendola, Russet back Oropendola, Olivaceous Siskin.

Day 5 / 16 Sept. Amazon Manu Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick.- By Boat Early start by boat in the way we sow White collared peccary crossing the river we visit the Macaw Clay Lick and Lunch at the Amazon Manu Lodge afternoon walk at the forest next to the Lodge. Birds this day: Roseate Spoonbill, Great Egret, Capped Heron, Little Blue Heron, Bat Falcon, Black Skimmer, Red and Green , Scarlet Macaw, Chestnut fronted Macaw, Orange Cheeked Parrot, Blue Headed Parrot, Mealy and Yellow crowned Parrot, Amazonian Pygmy Owl, Needle billed Hermit(nesting next to the trail),White Chinned Sapphire, Blue Crowned, Black tail, Collared Trogon, Blue Crowned Motmot, Broad Billed Motmot, Curl Crested Aracari, Yellow Tufted Woodpecker, Spot breasted Woodpecker, White flanked Antwren, Plumbeus Antbird, Black spotted Bare eye, White Crested Spadebill, Little ground Tyrant, Piratic Flycatcher, Gray capped Flycatcher, Crowned slaty Flycatcher, Swainson`s Flycatcher, Pink throated Becard, Brown Chested Martin, Yellow rumped Cacique, Giant Cowbird, Pale Eyed Black Bird, Troupial, Thick billed Euphonia.

Day 6 / 17 Sept. Amazon Manu Lodge – Canopy Tower.- In the morning we visit the nice tower next to the lodge and afternoon walk the trails and visit the Piraña Lake and the Lock out next to the river all next to the lodge, the birds we sow this days was: Leas Grebe, Black Collared Hawk, Pale Winged Trumpeter, Pied Lapwing, Collared Plover, Spotted Sand Piper, Plumbeous Pigeon, Pale Vented Pigeon , Gray fronted Dove, Ruddy Quail Dove, Blue and Yelllow Macaw, Red bellied Macaw, Rose fronted Parakeet, Cobalt winged Parakeet, Tui Parkeet, White Bellied Parrot, Great Potoo, Green Kingfisher, Purur Jacamar, Bluish Fronted Jacamar, Black Fronted Numbird, White fronted Numbird, Swallow Wing, Long tailed Woodcreeper, Strong billed Woodcreaper, Buff throated Woodcreaper, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, Rufus tailed Foliage Gleaner, Rufous rumped Foliage Gleaner, Cinereous Mourner, Plum- throated Cotinga, Spangled Cotinga, Bare Necked Fruitcrow, Band Tailed Manakin, Blue Crowned Manakin, Red eyed Vireo, White winged Shrike Tanager, Green and Gold , Turquoise, Paradise, Opal rumped, Opal Croned, Swallow Tanager, Green Honey creaper, Blue, Yellow Billed Dacnis, Purple Honeycreeper, Black billed Seed Finch.

Day 7 / 18 Sept. Amazon Manu Lodge- Blanco Lake - Laberinto and Puerto Maldonado.- By Boat and Bus And otter early start with a short stop at Blanco Lake before we continue our trip to laberinto for 9 hours boat trip, Birds at the Blanco Lake: Anhinga, Cocoi Heron, Limpkin, Snowy Egret, Striated Heron, Horned Screamer, Great Black Hawk, Gray necked Wood rail, Wattled Jacana (With 3 Chicks), Dusky headed Parakeet, Sungrebe, Hoatzin, Least Grebe, . Muscovy Duck, Pied billed Grebe (Rare to see Coast Bird), Least Grebe, Pale Vented Pigeon, Plumbeous Pigeon, Social, Vermilion Flycatchers, Tropical Kimbird nesting on a tree, Limpkin, Amazon and Green Kingfisher, Dusky Headed Parakeet, Cobal winged and Tui Parakeed, Plumbeous Antbird, King Vulture and More …. Monkey like Dusky Titi, Brown Capuchin and Red Howler Monkey.

Day 8 / 19 Sept. Puerto Maldonado flight to Cusco and Ollantaytambo.- By Plane and Bus Birding around Pichico reserve next to the airport, this is an Oropendola Tours propriety, it is a nice place to do a birding with a lot of opportunity to see lowland Birds, and we sow a tree throated Slot seating on a branch of Cecropia tree. Amazon Birds: Rufescent Tiger Heron, Green Ibis, Hornet Screamer, Lesser Yellow Headed Vulture, Gray Hawk, Red Throated Caracara, Scaled Pigeon, Purus Jacamar, Ruddy ground Dove, Barred Antshrike, Boat billed Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Gray breasted Martin, Buff breasted Wren, Black capped Donacobius, House Wren, Blue black Grassquit, Double collared Seedeater, Chesnut bellied Seedeater, Epaulet Oriole. Cusco Highland Birds at Piuray lake at Chinchero in the way to Ollantaytambo valley: Burrowing Owl, Black Faced Ibis, Andean Goose, Wilson Phalarope, Puna Teals, Andean Duck, Common Moorhen.

Day 9 / 20 Sept. Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga – Ollanta – Machupicchu.- By Bus and Train Birds: Crested Duck, Speckled Teal, Andean Goose, Andean Condor, Mountain Caracara, Andean Pygmy Owl, Great Sapphirewing, Shining Sunbeam, White tufted Sunbeam, Violet Throated Starfrontlet, Saphire vented Puffleg, Green tailed Trainbearer, Black Tailed Trainbearer, Andean Flicker, Bar winged Cinclodes, Puna Thistletail, Streak throated Canastero, Unstreaked Tit Tyrant, Puna Ground Tyrant, Smoky Bush Tyrant, Rufous Breasted Chat Tyrant, Red crested Cotinga, Blue and White Swallow, Paramo Pipit, Peruvian Sierra Finch, Plubeous Sierra Finch, Ash breasted Sierra Finch, Plain Colored Seedeater, Chesnut Breasted MountainFinch, Bright Rumped Yellow Finch, Spectacled Red Start, Slate Throated Redstart.

Machupicchu – Cusco Train and Bus.- A wonderful day mixing birds and History : Mitred Parakeet, Andean Swift, Chesnut collared Swift, Short tail Swift, Green and White Hummingbird, Streaked Xenops, Sclater Tyrannulet, Marble faced Bristle Tyrant, White winged Black tyrant, Brown capped Vireo, Gray breasted wood wren, White capped Dipper, Fawn breasted Tanager, Scarled bellied Mountain Tanager, Silver Backed Tanager, Saffron crowned Tanager, Capped Conebill, Dull colored Grassquit, Chestnut capped Brush Finch, Tropical Parula.

Day 11 / 22 Sept. Cusco – Lima flight- Birding around Lima- Pucusana and Pantanos de villa (Villa Marshes)- flight back to Japan.- Plane and Bus We visit Pucusana and Pantanos de villa area for this day of birding Geat Grebe, Pied-billed Grebe, Peruvian Pelican, Humboldt Penguin, red legged cormorant, Guanay Cormorant, American Oystercatcher, Blackish Oystercatchers, Peruvian Thick Knee, Killdeer, Semipalmated Plover, Whimbrel, Willet, Wilson Phalarope, Belcher´s Gull, Inca Tern, Gray Gull, Kelp Gull, Spotted Sandpiper, Gray hooded Gull, House Sparrow,Franklin`s Gull, West Peruvian Dove, Croaking Ground Dove, Coastal Miner, Surf Cinclodes, Vermilion Flycatcher, White Cheeked Pinktail, Peruvian Meadowlark, Long Tailed Mockingbird, Peruvian Booby, Andean Duck, Striated Heron, Andean Coot, Common Morhen, Cinnamon Teal, Blue and White Swallow.

We saw Bronzy jacamar for the second time at Amazon Manu Lodge, this September 18 about 11.40 a.m. In two places at tapir clay lick trail, with a birdwatchers group. I saw 3 jacamars in one place and other 2 jacamars next to the same place. Bronzy jacamar Gabula leucogastra its new bird for peru.

I saw Bronzy jacamar in Manu Amazon Lodge, Agust 17 about 10.20 a.m. In two places at tapir clay lick trail with 4 bird watchers. I saw 3 jacamars in one place and other 2 jacamars next to the same place. Bronzy jacamar Gabula leucogastra its new bird for peru.

I went to see the nesting place of Harpy Eagle in Puerto Maldnado area with the assistance of oropendola Tours. I had a wonderful experience especially with the Harpy Eagle chick and the parents, the tower was nice and comfortable it was my dream to take picture of Harpy Eagle spectacular bird and this bird is a number one of my favorite bird in the world the tower was 30 meters high and the nature, canopy where close to me and fantastic experience to stay this high.
