Peru's Manu National Park has more than a million and a half hectares, ranging from the high Andes to lowland, tropical rainforest. The National Park has about 1,000 species of birds, making it one of the best bird watching destinations not only in Peru, but in the entire world.
The mountainous region is accessible by vehicle, and the first destination is the Cock- of-the-Rock Lodge, followed by the Amazonia Lodge, Pantiacolla Lodge, and finally the Amazon Manu Lodge. The Amazonia and Pantiacolla lodges are home to over 500 species of birds. The Amazon Manu Lodge, located outside of Manu National Park, is the best lodge for birding with 550 species of birds registered there. The Amazon Manu Lodge is located close to ‘Blanquillos’, the most famous Macaw clay lick in the Manu area; as well as the 140-foot Canopy Tower Tree and Blanco Oxbow Lake. There is a 30 km trail system around the Lodge, and just a 45-minute walk from the lodge is the best-known mammal clay lick, where there is a good chance to see a Tapir and much more jungle wildlife.
The city of Cusco is at an elevation of 3,400 m.a.s.l.; Acjanaco, the high part of Manu, is situated at 3,556 m.a.s.l.; the Cock of the Rock Lodge is situated at 1,450 m.a.s.l.; the Amazonia Lodge is at 500 m.a.s.l.; the Pantiacolla Lodge is at 450 m.a.s.l., and the Manu Camping Lodge sits at 270 m.a.s.l.
Acjanaco is characterized by Puna grassland, second-growth scrub, Elfin forest Chusquea bamboo, humid mountain scrub, polylepis, evergreen forest.
Common: Shining Sunbeam, Rufous-bellied Bush-Tyrant, Scarlet-Bbellied Mountain-Tanager, Tufted Tit-Tyrant, Puna Thistletail, Drab Hemispingus, Sedge Wren, Masked Flowerpiercer, Black-throated Flowerpiercer, Moustached Flowerpiercer, White-browed Conebill, Golden-collared Tanager, Three-striped Hemispingus.
Uncommon: Black-billed Shrike-tyrant, Grass-green Tanager, Streaked Tuftedcheeck, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Plush-Capped Finch, Blue-Backed Conebill, Line-Fronted Canastero, Scribble-Tailed Canastero, Diademed Tapaculo, Barred Fruiteater, Andean Condor, Gray-hooded Bush-Tanager, White-browed Conebill.
Rare: Slaty Finch, White-throated Hawk, Sharpe's Wren.

(2,600 m.a.s.l.) Pillahuata is characterized by Chusquea bamboo, secondary forest, second-growth scrub, and evergreen forest.
Common: White-eared Solitaire, Gould's Inca, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Chesnut-breasted Coronet, Violet-throated Starfrontled, Amethyst-throated Sunangel.

The region is characterized by secondary forest, lowland terra firme forest, evergreen forest, agricultural fields, lowland bamboo, and small oxbow lakes. At an elevation of 500 m.a.s.l. and 190 km from Cusco, this lodge has 600 species of birds. There is a garden in front of the lodge where you can see Rufous-crested Coquette, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Blue-tailed Emerald, Amethyst Woodstar, Golden-tailed Sapphire, Black-eared Fairy, Koepckes Hermit, and Violet-headed Hummingbird.
Common: Long-tailed Potoo, Great Potoo, and Common Potoo, Blackish Rail, Fiery-capped Manking, Amazonian Antpitta, Johannes Tody-Tyrant, Uniform Crake, Blue-headed Macaw, Olive Tanager, Spectacled Bristle-Tyrant, Kopeck's Hermit, Wire-crested Thorntail, Fine-barred Piculet, Ocellated Woodcreeper, Black-capped Tinamou, Buff-Throated Tody-Tyrant, Rufescent Tiger-Heron and much more.
(450 m.a.s.l.) Characterized by lowland terra firme evergreen forest, flooded evergreen forest, Amazonian river-edge forest, secondary forest, lowland bamboo forest, there are 560 species of bird registered here. The Lodge is a 2-hour boat ride down the Alto Madre de Dios River.

At the Lodge's flower garden visit Festive Coquette, Black-bellied Thorntail, Reddish Hermit, Rufous-breasted Hermit, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, White-chinned Sapphire, and White-necked Jacobin. Some of the rarer birds at the Lodge include: Long-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Black Tinamou, Red-Billed Pied Tanager and the Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo.
The forest at this lodge has a mixture of várzea, terra firme, Bamboo at lowland terra firme and extensive well marked trail system accessing to all diferent habitats.
A 30 meter Canopy Tower, next to Amazon Manu Lodge, with a good number of mix flog birds, make this place a unic experience birding on the lowland Amazon Forest.

This is an indigenous communal lodge inside Manu National Park, situated next to Salvador Lake, the best known lake in Manu; 6 hours up the Manu River from Boca Manu Airport. The area is characterized by flooded evergreen forest, lowland terra firme evergreen forest, freshwater lakes, rives, sand beaches, and Amazonian river-edge forest.
The Machiguenga Lodge has similar birds to that of the Manu Camping Lodge, though the Black-faced Cotinga, an endemic bird in the department of Madre de Dios, is registered here.
